Though anyone can learn to paint on their own, the best and fastest way to learn and avoid frustration is to find someone who can teach you the tricks and techniques. You'll speed your learning process and make bigger strides fast. Most instructors offer workshops, which are a one week course with other students. Some offer private lessons and group lessons you can take daily or weekly.

Use our directory to find an artist in your area. If you don't find one, search 'artist', 'plein air', and your town or area and contact them to see if they teach, or know someone who does. You may also find a plein air club in your area offering classes, and its members may invite you to paint with them.

Tuscany Plein Air

Tuscany Plein Air is a new concept in teaching landscape painting to artists, both experienced and beginning. Our workshops take place in some of the most comfortable and well located villas in Tuscany they also reveal the secrets of painting landscapes alla prima.

Capturing nature in one sitting is very much about process and artist participants don’t have to be highly skilled in drawing. An attention to detail, love of color and empathy with nature are huge advantages. The principles which underline Tuscany Plein Air come from the modern classic realist art schools of Florence.

Sonja Brussen

Sonja Brussen is a professional plein air artist she paints in nature after nature. Her work is very recognizable by the solid bold brushstrokes.
All of her live Sonja has been a true outdoor girl. Since her childhood nature has fascinated here in all kinds of ways. This love for nature is what she is trying to capture in her paintings.
Since 1998 she works as a fulltime professional artist, from the small town Lochem in the east of the Netherlands. With an impressionistic touch she makes paintings with a unique character, en ‘Plein air’.
Sonja is getting an increasing interest from leading galeries in the Netherlands and she has lots of followers. If you look at her paintings it is not that you get the feeling that you want to be there, but that you are already there. She invites you into her imagination and brings the impressive outside to the inside.
