I am a devoted painter of the “New American Impressionist Movement”. My mission, as a painter, is to effectively apply colors in a beautiful combination to transmit the many moods of nature. I try to take an honest approach of painting the specific color relationships that I see to interpret the many light keys that nature provides –that’s what ultimately inspires me. Contact me for class/workshop info, as a painting buddy, or for a personal private lesson.
Good color, or color that expresses the light key of nature, can make even the most mundane subject matter strikingly beautiful. “Anything under the sun is beautiful if you have the vision—it is the seeing of the thing that makes it so,” (from Hawthorne on Painting). I see a remarkable change in my students’ work after only one day of painting. They begin to see color in the shadows. Many students say they have discovered a world of color that has changed them forever — their vision has been altered.

After many years in the studio as Adjunct Professor of Art at Santa Rosa Junior College, I’m now more available throughout the year for the pleasures of exploring and painting outside, and teaching plein air workshops. My goals as a teacher are to offer people tools and working processes that give them comfort and confidence to explore and create with joy.
Painting in the outdoors since 2003, as many days of the week as I can, hit 10,000 hours, I believe, and some days that makes for easier simplifications, setup, and flow. I have a very flexible schedule, so if you are in Sonoma County, or adjoining Napa or Marin counties, and want a painting buddy or demo or tips on being fearless, gear, etc., please contact me.
